When doing this problem, we'd start by subtracting the 22, so
we get -7 the absolute value of X + 6 greater than -7.
We then divide by the -7 and we get X + 6.
We have to flip the inequality whenever we multiply or divide
by a negative and -7 / -7 is one.
Now the absolute value by definition says the absolute
value equals X if X is greater than or equal to 0 and the
opposite of X if X is less than 0.
So when we look at this problem, we realize that we have X + 6
less than one and the inside portion being the opposite if it
was less than 0.
So we have two different cases.
We have it looking exactly like it is if the X is greater than 0
and we take the opposite of the X if the X was less than 0.
And we need to solve both of these.
So X less than we subtract the six -5 and we can multiply
everything through by a -1, which would flip the inequality.
Or a different way to do this would be to distribute the
negative, and you'll see that we'll get the same answer.
Neither.
Either way, if we subtract the six, we get X greater than -7.
Here we're going to add the six and then we're going to divide
by a -1.
So we want all the numbers that are less than -5 and greater
than -7.
If we think about our number line -5 negative six -7, we want
everything greater than -7 and less than -5.
So we want all the values in between -7 and -5.
We would use parentheses if we were using interval notation, so
-7, -5 parentheses.
If we were using set notation, we'd have all the XS such that
-7 less than X less than -5.
