Hello, amazing, wonderful mathematics students for the
spring of 2013.
I want to show you a few quick things and how to get
registered.
First thing I want you to be aware of is from the KCC
homepage.
There's faculty and staff and faculty web pages under my web
pages, a lot of information that you may find useful this
semester.
My e-mail address, my school office phone number.
This phone number goes directly to me, the fax machine, which is
a shared machine, so make sure you put your name and my name on
it.
My office 4 O 1X classroom building on the Battle Creek
campus.
It's the top floor of the classroom building and yes, you
really can get there.
You have to either use the elevator in the Severn building
or walk up the staircase that's closest to the Severn building.
You have my spring schedule here.
I have lots of office hours.
Feel free to always just show up.
If you're needing help, show up and see me.
Also, the intermediate algebra link right here.
Very important.
It's going to have lots of things on here.
The first thing I want to point out is we use Course Compass and
we have a code.
Our code is COC 75358.
If you're in the online class, it's going to be Cox 3868 if
you're in the face to face course.
So within here, before I jump into course compass, I just want
to briefly show you that we have all the videos listed here.
Here's chapter 2 videos.
So you're going to click on the video and it's going to take you
into a new link where you're actually going to watch the
video for this section.
We also have down here at the bottom questions from students.
This is saying Chapter 2, Section one, Problem 9, Chapter
2, Section 2, problem 57, etcetera.
So these are problems that students in the past in the
intermediate algebra class have asked.
You can also go back to my intermediate algebra page and go
back to my homepage.
Go back to KCC's page from here.
So we're going to go back to the Intermediate Algebra play page
and click on the Course compass link.
You can also type in Pearsonmylab in mastering.com,
or you can really type in coursecompass.com.
So from here, we're going to do a sign in.
No, we're going to do a register.
Sorry, most of you probably don't have a Course Compass
account already.
If you already have a Pearson account or a Course Compass
account, you can just sign in and use the new code.
But let's pretend like we don't have an account.
So we're going to click student.
We're going to type in our account.
We're going to create a new account.
Now, if you have your old account right here, username,
password, not sure if you have an account, you can click here.
If you're having any kind of technical difficulties
navigating the actual site, you want to contact them and that's
this contact us button.
Sometimes if you have an English product and a math product, they
don't always play nicely together.
So sometimes you need to contact them and have them help link the
two accounts.
But we're going to hit a create and I'm going to put in an
e-mail.
Great math student usernames unavailable.
Great math student 42 And then we're going to put in a
password.
Least 8 long.
Great math student 42.
Oh, it can't include my username?
Student 42 student.
Oops, student 42 first name.
Great math.
Now use your real first name.
Use your real last name.
Those will actually show up in course Compass.
I'm hoping maybe it's going to make me do this.
What town was I born in?
What's my father's middle name?
Let's make it up.
What year is my mother born?
We'll say 1900.
Accept the user license.
Create an account.
So now if you have an access code that comes free with a new
book from KCC, you can use a credit card or PayPal to
actually buy it directly from the site.
And they also have down here get a temporary access without
payment for 17 days.
You no longer have an excuse.
I didn't get my book yet.
I've ordered it online.
I can't get on.
Right here is your free 17 days if you're needing it.
So if you need free 17 days, Are you sure you want temporary
access?
You're going to click yes.
I'm actually going to say no thanks because I'm not wanting
to create another student into my course.
But from here it's pretty self-evident if you pay for it
online.
Our textbook is totally online, just so you know.
So next thing I'm going to do is I'm actually going to sign in
and right here, Spring 13 Math 121 is my section 90 and 91
Spring 13 Math 121 section 08, face to face is my face to face
classes.
Another video coming soon walking us through how to use
stuff within Course Compass.
