Grammarly is a grammar and mechanics
checker that can be used by faculty to help
students understand what they’ve done wrong
in their papers and to give students examples
of grammar and mechanics. To use
Grammarly, simply select Course Tools on the
Control Panel and Grammarly. You will see a
list of assignments in the course you’re
teaching.
If students have made attempts to the
assignments, you’ll see a list of students’
names. If you select a student’s name,
Grammarly will sometimes allow you to
automatically evaluate that paper. Grammarly
has restrictions based on file types, so this
method sometimes works and sometimes
does not.
In most cases, select Review My Text. A new
window will open. Open a student paper and
select the text of the paper. For the purposes
of this tutorial, we will only select a paragraph
to review. Paste in the text. Select how you
would like to review the paper based on what
type of document it is. For this tutorial, we’ll
select Research Paper. Select Start Review.
The length of time it takes to review is based
on the length of the selected text section. Once
Grammarly has reviewed the paper, students
will be able to see explanations on what
they’ve done wrong and why, and even go in
and make improvements right here if they’d
like to.

You can save this report as a .pdf file and
submit it to the student to review. You can
send the report directly to the student if you
have the student’s email, but the preferred
manner is to copy the URL to this report and
paste it inside a Blackboard feedback box.
This allows students to not only get feedback
on the content or the rubric that’s given, but
also gives them a link to review their paper and
talk about improvements.

Grammarly is a simple but very powerful and
helpful tool!
