This drill is great for a) building a powerful and efficient kick and b) helping the athlete develop tautness in the water, which is essentially the maintenence of a long, narrow, and tight body position in the water through proper core engagement and kicking technique. Vertical kicking can be performed without fins, but for the purpose of this video demonstration, I perform the drill with fins. To make this drill more challenging, remove the fins and/or raise the arms overhead in a streamline position.
